We are going off the rails for a spell after today to partake in typical holiday activities. We leave you with The Inevitable Twas the Night Before Christmas parody, which we first ran in 2008. Happy holidays, or, as we … Continue reading
Waiting For Good Joe
So if you had July in the when-will-Hawthorne’s-new-station-cafe-open? pool, you lost. If you had August, or September, or October, or November, and probably December too, for the grand opening of the Train Delay Cafe, you lost. But there is a … Continue reading

The Key to Snagging the Best Seat on the Train
Many daily commuters have a little bit of “That’s MY seat!” O.Seat.D. in them, but perhaps no one has it worse than a man I’ve written about before, who simply has to have the folding 1 3/4-seaters that are completely set … Continue reading

NOTES FROM A NOREASTER: I’m Dreaming of a White Halloween
Every year, we post a picture of a giant tree at Hawthorne station, in various states of leaf undress. Somewhat randomly, and because it’s usually in the middle of when the leafs are in full color, and many have fallen, … Continue reading

Quaint, It Ain’t
Who needs the fancy carved wooden “Welcome to Hawthorne” sign when you have this? (Unfortunately, I cut the ‘N’ in ‘Now.’ Getting it in the frame would’ve meant backing further into the middle of Chelsea Street, which could’ve been dangerous.)

A Few Words With Joan Maybury
Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Joan Maybury took a short break from managing the town to dish with Trainjotting on her (almost) first two years as supervisor, what’s next on her agenda, and which New York sports icon she sees as … Continue reading
