The polls close tomorrow for Trainjotting’s First Ever Best Damn Commuter Town Period, and Hartsdale–that less white, less moneyed cousin to Scarsdale, home of the first Carvel store and the world’s first canine cemetery–gets a nod from reader Mitch.
Why?
1. Hartsdale is the initial stop for several morning express trains, like the 7:58. That means you get your choice of seats. Then, from the comfort of your window perch, you can watch the fancy folk in Scarsdale cast about for the leftovers, debating whether to take that middle seat next to the fat guy.
2. Speedy, efficient, friendly service from the Starbucks inside the station.
3. Juan, the friendly newspaper vendor.
4. A pretty good village, with a variety of restaurants.
