Tiny downtown Hawthorne is getting a barber shop, as evidenced by the big sign shouting BARBER SHOP above the window.
It’s in the little strip mall featuring the grubby Chinese place, the laundromat and the Latin food joint Punta Cana. Specifically, it will inhabit the storefront that, many years ago, harbored a stationery store called D’ Shoppe.
While downtown Hawthorne does not have a full-service restaurant (sorry, not counting Gordo’s), a bakery or a dry cleaners, it does have several hair places, including a barber shop at the other end of the strip, over by Berger’s.
Since Little G grew out of the airplanes/police cars haircut place in Thornwood, we’ve been going to that place, called Johnny’s New Creations. The guys who cut hair there seem like Jersey Shore characters who didn’t make the cut. One is pleasant and the other less so, and both seem to take delight in badmouthing their absentee boss in full view of customers.
Little G and I have had to wait, and wait, and wait, while the guys spent what sure seems like an extraordinary amount of time on some guy’s hair that was already a buzzcut when he walked in.
So, another barber shop, by all means.
Welcome, in advance.
By the way, anyone know what the heck that brick constrution is at the Citgo at the base of Rte 100 and 141? The world’s fanciest red-brick Quickie Mart, perhaps?

Best of luck to the new barber shop, but with this new place there will be 10 haircut/hairstyle places between there and Kensico Rd?
