Hours before the polls were to close, County Exec hopeful Rob Astorino could be found pressing the flesh at his hometown Hawthorne train station, greeting each arrival off the 5:46 out of Gotham and seeing how many times he could say “HiI’mRobAstorino!” before the commuters made it to their cars.
Another novel campaigning technique from Astorino involved issuing lollipops on Halloween that had SPANO’S TAXES ARE SCARY! on the wrapper. They were given out by the fistful at Chez Astorino.
The sticky trick seemed to work, as Astorino felled longtime County Exec Andy Spano in a stunner and will take over the office come January. Rob can kiss the Metro-North commuting racket good bye, at least for the next four years.
