A Man, A Cellphone, A Metro-North Bathroom, A Lifetime of Laughs
Let us all take a moment to recall the actions of one Edwin Gallart on this very day, six years ago.
You may not remember the name, but of course you remember the incident–it was Gallart who lost his cellphone down a Metro-North toilet, then fatefully stuck his hand down there…stuck his hand down there!!!…and got […]

Straphanger Joe Harnesses the Power of Ganga
Ganga Power
It’s 7:34 a.m. and I just got on the F-train at Roosevelt and 74th. It’s the old orange and tan seater.
I take pole position just inside the door. A few people have to flow around and past me. Everyone is wet from the rain. I lean my umbrella on the ground against my backpack […]

Riding With Strangers
I primed myself for yet another “shitty morning”, as my fellow train rider awaiter “Ashley” so eloquently stated yesterday. The rain was falling, meaning the bike stays in the garage. I headed out on foot and encountered a burly neighbor with a burly dog nearby. I remember him telling me at the summer block party […]

The Philadelphia Phillies opted for a chartered train ride to Gotham to prepare for their World Series showdown with the Yankees at the House That Ruth(less Pursuit of Free Agents) Built.
The Phillies also hopped a train to New York to face the Yankees in the 1950 Series.
Writes the New York Times:
The reason for the […]

A ‘Shitty’ Morning, Indeed
Jeez, what a morning. I was cutting it close this morning, and had to park the steel chariot (I’ve rebranded my bicycle) in the usual bike rack, not against the fence under the overpass, which provides a bit of protection in the rain.
Turns out I had more time than I thought. Way more.
Right around 8:16, […]

Christmas Carol Train Hits Grand Central
A train hyping the new Disney film “A Christmas Carol” hits Grand Central later this week. The train started in Los Angeles and has been making its way east since May, enticing children in some 40 cities to beg their parents to see the film, which stars Jim Carrey and debuts Nov. 6.
It’s a […]

The Best 10 Minutes JerseyJim Ever Spent Online
Don’t worry folks, it’s SFW.
Browsing back on my ample time sitting and surfing the splinter-net, I recently spent my most productive ten-minutes ever online. A few clicks on the Commuter Nation website, and entering some random personal information, I was a weekly winner of the nation-wide RIDE FREE sweepstakes, covering two months of commuting, a $436 […]

Bud Lime Wins Caption Contest
Just as the Great Yankeemobile hit a pothole en route to the Fall Classic, Trainjotting’s Connecticut Correspondent “Saugatucker” was selecting the winner of our first annual Caption Contest.
Saugatucker speaks:
The grand prize of all the dollar bills you can stuff down C.C. Sabathia’s uniform pants goes to Jim for caption #1, “Introducing the New American League […]

Richard Heene Was Rethinking Commuting
If you watched any of the Balloon Boy footage that broke around this time last week–and who among us didn’t?–perhaps you saw disgraced Balloon Dad Richard Henne explain to the media scrum outside his house exactly what he planned to do with his helium-fueled flying saucer. (This was before it was revealed to be a […]
