Our morning trains this week were leaflet-bombed with the August issue of “FYI Customer Update”, which informed our New Jersey Transit ridership that (among other things) the Meadowlands rail service is now in operation!
Back in the spring I made an experimental journey to the Meadowlands by train from Penn Station to Secaucus, and then connecting to a shuttle bus to the IZOD Arena for The Dead [Editor's Note: Latest iteration of '60s-'70s-'80s-'90s seminal jam band The Grateful Dead]. This was a smooth connection overall, but the new direct train line seems like a great deal for Giants and Jets fans.
The FYI update tells of a 23-minute direct service available from Hoboken Terminal, with an intermediate stop at the Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Secaucus Junction (“FRLSASJ” for short!). Train service only operates for major events of 50,000 fans or more.
With all the talk-radio sassy-talk about Giants and Jets season ticket pricing, and limited parking due to the mysterious Xanadu shopping mall, a change like this will be quite welcome by regular fans. It’s almost like having a stadium on the west side of Manhattan. Oh wait a minute…
