Metro-North Puts Departures Board Back in Rightful Place

Doing my usual Usain Bolting up Park Ave South and into Grand Central last night, I was quite pleased to see the electronic departures TV screen on the kiosk panel facing the front doors of Grand Central–not on an inconvenient side panel, as had been the case the past week.

I’d called Metro-North earlier in the week to inquire why a static list of Grand Central shops now occupied the front panel, while those searching for their departing track had to go looking for it on the side of the kiosk. (Readers have asked why I don’t simply call up the Metro-North big board on my recently found Blackberry; my reason is that it’s actually faster to read your track while zooming by the departures screen, as opposed to fishing the Blackberry out of the backpack and dialing up the Website. Call me old-school.)

“I don’t know, to be honest,” said the spokesperson, who said our dear friend Dan Brucker will call us back.

No one did call back. But seeing as the problem has sorted out, we’ll cease our hectoring.
