Metro-North Conducts Disaster Drill in Mount Vernon

As if Mount Vernon didn’t have enough problems with crime, school budget cuts, etc. The beleaugured city gets a blast of hazardous spills, fiery crashes and exploding bombs (mind you, all are staged) Saturday morning during an MTA ”emergency simulation.”

The drill is a joint venture between the MTA Police, Mount Vernon’s cops and fire department, Metro-North,  Westchester County Police and other public safety organizations.

Here’s what’s on tap:

These drills allow police, fire, ambulance corps, hazardous materials units and other emergency agencies and local authorities to experience dealing with third rail and catenary wire power, with train equipment and to learn the unique demands of responding to railroad emergencies.

Afterwards, everyone heads over to BarCar for a few well-deserved potables.
