The staid Washington Metro railroad, where the trains are carpeted, no one but no one brings food, the seats have extra cushion to them, and everyone’s off the rails by midnight (including the rare roach), will start running an hour earlier on Inauguration Day.
Washington will swell by an estimated 2 million people Tuesday, and the locals are hopping mad that the bridges and tunnels leading from south of the District to the Beltway are being shut down for the day for security reasons.
To help accommodate the crush of people, the Metro is starting running at 4 a.m. instead of the usual 5 a.m.
You can pick up your commemorative Barack Obama Inauguration SmarTrip cards for 10 bucks at select DC CVS stores.
Of course, our president-elect will, like so many attendees to the historic event, be arriving in DC via train too.
