Metro-North Worker Killed On Job
Posted by TJ under Metro North
The railroad lost one of its own last night, as Metro-North signal maintainer Kevin Kenneth McGrath was killed by an oncoming train outside of Rye.
The accident happened around 7 p.m.
Sean McCloskey, 44, a Metro-North signal maintainer who described himself as the victim’s best friend, said he was at his New Rochelle home when he got a phone call about the incident.
“It’s a dangerous job, and people don’t understand that,” McCloskey said at the scene. He said he did not know the circumstances of the incident.
McCloskey declined to identify the man but said he was a New Rochelle man who loved motorcycles and “loved life.”
Several other railroad employees gathered at the scene, some embracing and some crying.
Please feel free to share thoughts and memories of Kevin Kenneth McGrath under ‘Comments.’

It’s a tragedy. My heart goes out to this man’s friends and family, and to the poor engineer who’ll relive the horror for the rest their lives.
I lost a former brother-in-law, and a friend (both conductors)this way.
Remember this the next time someone writes a letter to the editor, saying that conductors are a bunch of overpaid paper punchers.

Being the son of a signal maintainer and an employee as well. My heart and prayers go out the victims family and friends. I know that area well grew up around it. My father was the Pike maintainer off and on for 40 yrs. it is a really tough intertlocking to work. Again my heart and prayers go out to the family and freinds. God Bless you.

For those who have had the pleasure of knowing Kenny/ goo/ shrek/ heavy mcgrath. This has been a antigonizing and lonely year for me it has been very raw. Kenny was a loyal and honest person, he was always there when someone needed him no matter what. He was always sharp witted. He spoke Japanesee and was a second degree black belt. He was also a history wiz and a comedian. He was a warior who always led his troops to victory. He always kept his promise. He was a father who layed a strong fondation down for his children. He was a very good brother, son , husband and family man. He was a superior person and he is with me when I wake and when I go to sleep ken papa -there will never be another you. P.S who ever has judgement of my marriage should not criticize instead look at their own realationship.
