My train this morning on NJ Transit was seat-bombed with coupons for the New Wave of eco-friendly ideas–the ZIPCAR. You might have heard about them, or seen the green dotted cars, pimped out with a Z, parked at Ikea, and infecting Brooklyn.
Essentially a Netflix of rental cars, Zipcars cleverly use the internet to bring rental cars closer to drivers, and gas and insurance is included.
Too good to be true? That’s right, these cars don’t run on zippers, or velcro, or glide on some frictionless plasma…they run on gas. But rather than hauling the Hummer 2.2 miles to your train station, or paying to park your car in an overpriced lot, these cars have reserved parking at train stations and other locations.
The logic seems to sell itself–but NJ Transit has also provided a $50 FREE driving coupon, so I think they need more folks to win one for the Zipper!
Or, it might be that the fine print says the coupon expires on June 30, 2008. Good thing I was already on the train.

Loved the blog. I tried to use a zip car in LA but the closest cars were forever away in some other part of Socal so it didn’t really work for me. But I’ll keep trying because I think it makes sense for long road trips since I’ve yet to purchase a Prius.
I hope the flyers your seat was bombed with were printed on recycled paper with soy ink from pixxlz.com! It’s a great resource for eco-printed products.
Thanks for the fun blog,
jen
