Ranger Fans Set Fire to Manhole Covers

PATH TRAIN SERVICE SUSPENDED TONIGHT ON 33RD STREET LINES
PATH service between 33rd Street and the Journal Square and Hoboken stations will be suspended in both directions through this evening due to signal and power cable damage caused by a small manhole fire east of Christopher Street Station. There were no injuries.

NuRide: Carpooling in the Digital Age
Interesting story in the Westchester section of the NY Times about NuRide.com, “a national ride-sharing website” that pairs up carpoolers with rides to work. Only NuRide goes traditional carpooling one better, as its 26,000 members can swap ride partners like ’70s suburbanites used to swap wives.

Inflation Hits Bar Cars/Carts
Metro-North is poised to hike up the price of a cocktail on both its bar cars and the carts stationed near the platforms in Grand Central. The railroad is “seeking approval from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board of directors to raise prices…to keep pace with inflation.”

The Demise of ‘Great Scoop’
