Funny story in the NY Times about the groping problem in Mexico City, and how it’s resulted in women getting their own commuter buses, identifiable by their pink placards and drivers who growl when men try to board.
“There are good men in Mexico, but they’re not the ones on public transport,” said one Mariana Vasquez. “They try to touch you.”
Apparently the groping issue is huge in Mexico. Even the men interviewed in Marc Lacey’s story acknowledge as much. “We have no respect,” said Adolfo Flores. Another male referred to “the animal instinct”–and man’s need to assert his masculinity by inappropriately touching ladies on the bus.
It must’ve taken some smooth talking by Mr. Flores to get his ass onto the girl bus.
