Yonkers Ferry Debuts, Nobody Bites

The Yonkers ferry had its maiden voyage this morning, hauling Yonkersers to the World Financial Center in lower Manhattan in 45 minutes. Problem was, no one took it.

OK, not no one, no one. But not many. The Journal News (a.k.a. “Indian Point Today”) offered a photograph of one guy who rode the boat with a total of three people (the boats seat some 150).

To entice those who just love the ol’ Metro-North, New York Water Taxi is offering a free round-trip for those who sign up. Normally, it’s $12 a ride, or $400 for a 40-pack.

That includes flat-screen TVs onboard.

Bummer. I always like to see the alterna-transport opening up. Low uptake is probably a result of cost. How’s it compare to the other Yonkers/WFC travel options?
